Weak arguments are always concealed by personal abuse.
If you have an argument, make it and stick to it when it comes under criticism.
Play the ball, not the man.

John Gray (an atheist himself), in his recent book Seven types of Atheism, looks at militant theism of the Dawkins/Hitchens variety (Ditchkins in the words of the Marxist, Terry Eagleton) and regard it contemptuously as on a par with fundamentalist Christianity. Absolutely certain of itself, incapable of recognising doubt, believing that a…[Read more]

So now I am a racist, an Islamophobe, a paid-up member of the Labour party, a liberal Christian, a member of the Establishment..and so it goes on and on and on and on.
Play the ball, not the man.
You put forward a very weak argument about the Establishment using economic policy to create an ‘underclass’ after 1980 in order to blame that…[Read more]

Weak argument, Gerry, covered by the oddest and most bizarre of accusations.
The weaker the argument, the more bizarre and rapid the accusations to cover the weakness.
The more the accusations are answered, the more they multiply, leaving all concnection to reality behind.
Stick to argument, play the ball, not the man.
You put forward an…[Read more]

The more personal abuse and hysteria is used, the weaker the argument.
I seem to be a racist, a liberal, living in a liberal Christian bubble, someone who issues anti-Islam bile during Ramadan, a liberal hypocrite, a member of the Establishment!!! Are you on the same planet as the rest of us? Get a grip.
You make it up, Gerry, and hope that…[Read more]

QE and Tommy,
shall we talk about the non-Muslim grooming gangs??

You’re living in cloud-cuckoo land.
Just as QE uses horror stories to show the Muslim conspiracy, so you use scare stories to show the Establishment conspiracy.
It#’s Elders of Zion stuff on both your parts.
To claim economic policy has been used to create an ‘underclass’ by Thatcher, in order to deflect attention from themselves, is a parody…[Read more]

Morgan, I would hate it if this country became an anti-Muslim version of Saudi Arabia in its religious policy. There is change brewing in Saudi, but its Wahabi interpretation of Islam is among the strictest and most repressive (the Sufi interpretation is the gentlest and most seductive).
Why should it be an offence to hold antiquated views?

I don’t totally disagree with you, Gerry eg you reasons for the brexit vote make sense, but are one-sided.
In general, that’s not how I see the world of the last 30 years.
I think it’s a paranoid view which relies too much on everything being the product of a conspiracy by ‘the Establishment’, and economic policy as being a tool of nefrious…[Read more]

I don’t see how Tommy Robinson’s conviction is an example of freedom of speech being curtailed.
I really don’t follow news about this guy, so I had to do what I condemn others for doing, which is wiki him.
A lot of information about his far-right political activities, and the worrying information that he changed his name to the leader of a group…[Read more]

Sure, and we all try to guess when someone changes their name, for reasons good or bad.
We’re not always right, but that’s part of it.
I was just curious when you were being called Dan, and you were quoting Daniel Pipes.
Not important, in the end. just curious.
I’ve argued these things with you a long while ago, I think. You confuse doctrine…[Read more]

That was my guess, from the peculiar mix of crude (sometimes funny) humour and nasty invective, mixed in with reasoned argument.
but the use of Daniel Pipes threw me a little.

So… a question to QuintessentialParadox
Are you actually Daniel Pipes?
Or do you just quote him??
Just an innocent question from someone who isn’t privy to everybody’s real names, not even real Christian names, behind their jc names.

I don’t see Ms M’s suggestion as fully practicable, as when you’re accused of horrible things you do need to defend yourself.
There are some people here who have worked out ways of keeping an argument going when everybody has ceased to listen to the arguments.
They can’t be stopped.
But I do see Ms M’s point. I do see her frustration at seeing…[Read more]

But I didn’t make a racist statement.
I explained why the statement was not racist.
You’re the only one who thinks it’s racist.
Nobody else.
