In many hospitals and hospices across the country a form of legal euthanasia takes place. Syringe drivers are inserted into the terminally ill and a cocktail of morphine and sedative drugs are given to the patient… it is known as terminal sedation which in fact speeds up the death of the person – all be it making it less painful and more peaceful. They did this to 3 members of my family and in one sense I am grateful to them for making their deaths peaceful, but at the same time, when they did it to my dad he fought tooth and nail against the drugs they were giving him… at one point the nurse commented that he had had enough to traquilise an elephant yet he was still waking and trying to get out of bed… their response was to up his doses.. and call what he was experiencing terminal agitation, however knowing my dad, I often wonder with hindsight if he fought because he wasn’t ready to go and it doesn’t sit comfortabley with me to be honest. I have no clear view of this whole practise, I have read articles on it to try and gain clarity but I still can’t decide about whether it is just legal euthanasia or whether they are genuinely just putting people out of pain.

It had crossed my mind that this might be a publicity stunt at one point but having seen an interview of him talking about it, no one knows who the man is he is meant to have murdered and its a secret he is going to take the the grave apparently so without actual evidence his confession is useless I presume?

What I don’t understand is that suicide is no longer illegal, but you have to be well enough to physically commit your own suicide, and many of the people who want to end it all in these circumstances are in no ‘fit’ state to proceed with the act itself so is it that unlawful to help someone do what they want but cannot do themselves? However, there has to be ways and means.. not just a pillow over the head – am sure in our lives there have been times when its tempting to do that to someone but we can’t just all go around doing it and then saying… he asked me to can we lol

The failings don’t lie solely with the local authorities, in many cases they lie with the neighbour who could hear the child crying night after night but did nothing in case they were being too nosey or wrong, or the gp who couldn’t see consistancy because they only saw the child once or twice or never followed up a second appointment when they had a gut feeling something was wrong, or the child’s nursery or school worker who looked beyond the child constantly being unclean on arrival coz ‘ thats just how the family are’… need I go on? When a child at risk is notified to the local authorities its only then they can do something about it. This usually involves having to contact the child’s education setting, their health visitor, the gp, any social workers involved with the family, etc etc etc to build a big picture of any evidence or whether its a one off event causing the referral. This all takes time. People have to reply to all of their requests, they have to then bring together a ‘board’ type meeting where the case is heard and this board can consist of any of the affore mentioned ppl and local authority workers and child protection workers. At the end of this meeting they will decide if and how the child is at risk and whether they would be more at risk if they remain where they are or if they in removing them the effect of that alone would be as risky to their wellbeing. In most cases a child has to seriously at risk for them to rehome the child and where possible they will always try to keep the child where they are and work with the parents to educate them about their failings. The whole process stakes a long time and that is why children fall through the loop – tragic as it is. We must remember that child abuse happens in many levels… from the parent who doesn’t bother to take a sick child to the dr because work commitments are more important to the adult who murders or sexually abuses a child…. or the emotional abuse some children encounter… its all abuse… it just has to be defined and thats where the problem lies in leaving it all up to social workers who know nothing about the children or family… it should fall on the hands of anyone who knows them and sees a problem to report it and get the ball rolling.

moi aussi! I am getting where I ignore more and more and sometimes don’t even bother reading the thread at all if the opening sentence doesn’t allure me.

When the Yorkshire Ripper was at large my mother dreamt of a woman lying behind a wall with certain injuries… later that week in the news was the exact scenario that my mother had dreamed of.

Similarly at the turn of 2009 I was reluctant to go out and celebrate the coming of the year as I had an overwhelming feeling it was going to be an awful year and had dreams about the years events which I am chosing not to divulge now. It turned out to be my worst ever year as it happens with my dreams becoming a reality.

When my ex broke my trust, like a fool I believed the it won’t happen again and continued on with our wedding arrangement… (love is apparently blind) anyway… 3 months later I found out he was still with the same girl so in answer to your question… Trust has to be earned and once someone has broken it, they never have the right to earn it back.

We got ripped off when my dad died coz he inconveniently died near to valentines day and the florist charged us the hyped up prices for his funeral flowers.
Anyway… I worked in a florist once at valentines… and heres a secret… they bought in at pre valentines prices and kept the roses in the fridge for as long as poss then charged the earth for them… i had the misfortune of being the mug on the end of the phone dealing with the complaints for poor quality.
