Who the hell is talking about Americans :? :?
There was a relevant point to be made. You appeared to be blaming black and asian crime on “foreigners” or immigration. You also used the terms immigrant, black/asian and foreign in a confusing way when you were talking about crime and the prison population.
I pointed out that in the USA they don’t blame the fact that there is proportionately more black crime on immigration. There are a range of other factors. As there are here. Maybe I was being too subtle but the whole crime question is more complicated than blaming it on “outsiders”.
Who are the outsiders anyway? And who are the lucky ones who are not foreign? The ones with the “right” genes or the ones who were born here and have the “right” genes. And what about Australians, Poles, Hispanics? They all have the “right” genes. Some of them have the legal right to live here, some of them don’t. Are they included in your foreigners?
What do you want done with these people to solve our gun crime problem?
(With apologies for straying so far from the subject of arming the police)

The majority of the prison population is foreign. The majority of gun crime is commited by blacks & asians.
The statistics don’t lie.
But yes you’re right, I could have worded that better, didn’t mean it to sound as it did.
Crime is crime. I’m for harsher sentences regardless of colour. I’m a strong advocate of capital punishment and every single person in prison should be hanged (except people who are in for self defence, tax dodging, not paying tv license etc).
Mmmm?
I think a little bit of digging on that might suggest that those foreigners you talk about are second or third generation British citizens. And a look at court statistics might suggest that you are more likely to be jailed for the same crime if you are afro-caribbean as opposed to being white.
You might also find other correlations between income levels and crime. The point is that it is a complex picture.
No-one denies that black Americans commit proportionately more crime than their white counterparts but nobody blames that on immigration.
Is your attitude on punishment utilitarian? All the evidence is that harsher sentences do not work for the more major crimes such as murder, but they are great for stopping parking offences. I exaggerate slightly but it is a point to consider.

Especially with the immigrant element of crime now, we’re getting African and Asian gangs armed to the teeth invading Britain.
Struggle to see the direct link between arming the police and immigrants – sure they commit crimes but our home grown criminals seem quite competent enough to keep the police busy.
It would be terrible if we couldn’t even rely on the quality of “our own” criminals!
Do you think “our own” criminals might do a better job if they weren’t having their patch invaded by foreigners?

Just read this – we should get out the EU!
http://www.shropshirewildlifetrust.org.uk/Badgers+and+bovine+TB/Cattle+vaccination
interesting reading
It is.
*waits for Terry to adopt the badgers for his anti EU platform
The article only says that some of the EU rules would have to change to allow for vaccines to be used. It goes on to state that, if there was a more sensitive test which differentiated between infected and vaccinated animals, vaccination would be allowed in certain circumstances. That is also the position of the UK government, interestingly enough.
As we knew already, we need a scientific advance on vaccines and testing to allow cattle to be vaccinated instead of destroyed, and to allow badgers to be left in peace.
If we can get the science right, the EU will not stop it.

23 October, 2012 at 9:29 am #513193Terry is of course not responsible for all the looney tunes who end up in UKIP.
There are of course fruit loops in all of the major parties but, being on the right and not being best friends with jonny foreigner, does potentially make UKIP a respectable gathering point for BNP types. Let’s hope UKIP is aware of this and will do something about it. If this does not happen, we would have to assume that Nigel Farage, far from being a decent chap who just disagrees with the EU, is a bit of a cad who shares the views of the extreme wing of his party.
To be fair these problems dog all political parties, although the big ones have more resources to root undesirables out.
It is for UKIP to take action, and Nigel Farage to distance himself from extreme right wing ideology.

If I was being positive about it I would say, he had issues with the guy he yelled at, he used racially charged terms, what he said was therefore racist, but his close friends reckon he’s a good guy, who doesn’t go around abusing people.
That sounds possible to me. He’s apologised for saying something he shouldn’t have and he’s going to try harder in the future.
In a world where racist abuse often leads to the victim’s life being ruined or someone being beaten up in the street, a major public figure has made a public admission of wrong-doing and a public apology. That’s not a bad outcome.
OK it was a bit long in coming, but we are where we are.

I hope David Cameron is right after all.

23 October, 2012 at 7:43 am #512081As the BBC start turning on themselves, and journalists start blaming their bosses for not taking on a story the Crown Prosecution Service wouldn’t touch, is it not about time we stopped trying to find a witch to burn?
Looks like we are going to blame institutions and individual managers for a failure of our whole culture.
Last night Panorama was as embarrassing for the failures of communication when the story broke, as it was for a journalist and a producer moaning about a decision their boss made, which turned out to be a bad one in hindsight. I have often disagreed with a boss but I wasn’t given the opportunity to dis him on TV.
This by Roy Lilley is better than anything I could write.
