Shush Jen jen… Mr Meldrew will hear :D
Well I was just suggesting there are solutions to every problem Jen… maybe not a good example but just because recruitment isn’t easy should not deter companies from creating opportunities for young people, that’s what I was trying to say.
I do take on board that some young people are their own worst enemies but surely that’s the system… when they leave school they should have been briefed on how to present themselves for interviews etc.
Thinking about it when my kids went on interviews I always worked with them on their interview skills and made sure they presented themselves well. None of us when we were young knew what to do… we all took advice, maybe that’s whats lacking now.

2 May, 2011 at 6:39 pm #461031Sounds expensive and time exhaustive Toy, so why not simplify it?
Go to an employment agency… register the job with them with all your requirements and tell them you want 5 candidates to choose from that fit the bill. Interview them on their premises, let them take out references on your behalf.
The cost of this service… 10% of the commencing annual salary with a full refund if the candidate leaves your employment in the first 4 weeks and a sliding scale refund up to 16 weeks employment…. impressive huh…. see Mr Meldrew there is a solution to every problem…. ooooops sorry got the name wrong :D :D :D
2 May, 2011 at 6:18 pm #467503Well the conspiracy theories abound, :?
I do not blindly accept everything I am told or that I read… I do however think this is true… he is dead… but I cant wait for the movie to come out to find out what REALLY happened :D :D :D

1 May, 2011 at 6:12 am #46746230 April, 2011 at 8:52 pm #461029I have a nephew in the same situation BAT… he did well in his A levels but decided not to go to University as he didnt want to get into debt. He is intelligent and articulate, however at the moment it appears there are simply not enough jobs for young people to do.
The recession has become a personal tragedy for kids born in the 90s and I fear they will become the forgotten generation as far as meaningful careers are concerned.
He has never been out of work… but in jobs with no real career progression…at the moment he is frying chicken at Nandos restaurant…. nothing wrong with that, but not really a job with a career path

30 April, 2011 at 8:24 pm #467448Cat, I gave up on explorer 9…. I deleted it and went back to explorer 8… nothing worked correctly with 9 for me… have to say I never tried to get into chat when I had it though.
If I remember correctly Explorer9 was not so easy to remove as it does not show up in programmes, in the end I asked google and that took me to the Microsoft site which did a step by step instruction on deleting it. After I deleted it everything was OK for me.
Gaz is good with stuff like this cat,,, but I haven’t seen him about lately but I’m sure he will advise if he sees this.
Anyway Good Luck!

No.
Don’t give the young a chance. Let them fight for it.If they’re terminally fook-witted why should they get one. A quick sacking is their best option and will provide a salutary lesson. Kids who weren’t suited to employment years ago were soon dismissed so why should things be any different now, in current economic circumstances ?
It’s very difficult trying to gainfully help a lad who’s just been dropped off by his mum still clutching the bowl of cereal she had to make for him.
True story.
Gosh Toy… I wonder what you are like in real life? Victor Meldrew maybe?
