Unless the individual in care has sold the property they resided in (or signed it over) and the profits of which were given to the next of kin.
If less than 7 years have passed since that event, the next of kin is liable for the payment of the nursing home fees.
In other words, your mam can’t sell her house, give you the £150k and then decide to live in a nursing home, you would be liable for the bill. After 7 years, the money is yours and the state pays

I never thought I would even half agree with Emma but there is some valid points in amongst the rhetoric.
I fully aceept we are part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain (including Isle of Man, Channel islands etc).
Each nation (except England) within the Uk has its own regional parliament, assembly etc which can create legislation which affects its own individual nation state, its control budgets for health, education etc and ONLY elected MP’s from that nation can vote in that assmebly,parliament- English MP’s cannot vote on laws regarding Scottish Education UNLESS the law is for the United Kingdom and not Scotland alone.
So- if the existing British Parliament legislates on an ENGLISH law only- why should any MP have the right to vote unless they represent an English constituency (I could mention that England as a country voted against Labour at the last election, the current government is in place because of Welsh and Scottish MP’s!). What right has the MP for Dumfries and Galloway got to vote on a law which will only affect ENGLAND when the Right Hon member for Maidstone cannot vote on Scottish laws.
