Sarah,
you’re expressing a pain that I will never feel.
I can’t stop you posting anything here, nor would I want to.
But you need to find a group or a person, and work it out with them.
I knew one woman who was also beside herself with this pain, and she said that she found a group of women who helped each other because they had all gone…[Read more]

This is a (sort of) joke about a dirty parrot which some may not find very funny and whihc others will, hopefully, understand.
It’s to allow me to tell some jokes which are (sort of) cruel or out of bounds. I like jokes whihc cross boundaries; political correctness is the enemy of humour.
There was a terribly polite gentleman who used to invite…[Read more]

I remember milky being born.
Thunder shook the sky, lightning flashed, the earth shook and all manner of things went weird – cows giving birth to horses and all the medieval signs of bad portents to come.

I remember milky being born.
Thunder shook the sky, lightning flashed, killing several innocent people, the earth shook and all manner of things went weird – cows giving birth to horses and all the medieval signs of bad portents to come.

Good on ya, Linda xxx
I’ll take you on a tour of the best bits of London (in the centre) as a reward if you wish.

It’s quite likely that at some point an asteroid will crash into us.
It happened at least once before, I believe, when the dinosaurs were wiped out.
Hasn’t Hollywood made a movie about it where the President of the United States flies a mission to destroy the asteroid? Or am I getting that mixed up??
My guess is that we can have as much…[Read more]

Linda, I know about region compatibility.
The USA is Region 1, the UK is Region 2.
UK manufacturers don’t want us Brits to see the superior discs produced in the USA (well Criterion are superior in quality anyway) so they take great steps to make sure we can’t watch anything from the USA.
I am one of many who’ve sidestepped this. I have a…[Read more]

Not heard of that one, Ms Laney. What’s it about? Is it worth seeing?

I saw it when it came out, somer.
I looked at the plot again. You’re right, it’s very closely connected to the second.
Thanks for the warning though.

Well, I’ve still go my list of Criterion blurays for you to get at halfprice at Barnes and Noble. A trip to London to pick up some Criterions may well be a trip worth taking.

Choose the right film and go.
The cinema experience is great, but not just any film.

Have you seen Bladerunner 49?
If so, what did you think??
It’s had golden reviews, and I’ve taken the risk of going to watch it tomorrow at my local IMAX cinema – in 3D no less.
The reviews I read said that it blows your head off if you watch it in IMAX.
So if I can get my head back on, I’ll give a simple commendation – or a thumbs down.

This thread is for alerts to new films, recommendations and opinions if you’ve just seen it.
No spoilers on the story!!!

I’ve seen 39 Steps – the Robert Donat version is the only one worth seeing.
Also seen Schindler’s List. Very moving. Too intense to watch more that two or three times in a lifetime.

I liked the Beatles a lot – the only one in my class at first. They had catchy tunes with a real dynamic after the mush they were serving in those days – songs like venus in Blue jeans and singers like Fabian and Matt Monro. They were fun, you could laugh and feel life had something to offer.
Their music also became more interesting. Songs like…[Read more]

I felt unclean after watching the BBC1 programme on the Russian Revolution last night.
I wasn’t expecting very serious analysis, but what I got was 3 characters hamming it up as Lenin, Trotsky and Stalin, playing up to the sneering innuendo and fictitious speculation of creeps like Simon Sebag Montefiore and Orlando Figes.
Tariq Ali’s poor…[Read more]
