I felt soiled after watching the BBC1 programme on the Russian Revolution last night.
I wasn’t expecting very serious analysis, but what I got was 3 characters hamming it up as Lenin, Trotsky and Stalin, playing up to the sneering innuendo and fictitious speculation of creeps like Simon Sebag Montefiore and Orlando Figes.
Tariq Ali’s poor…[Read more]

he was the most interesting of the Beatles, to me.
Paul always had a problem in never having got to college of any kind; he was always wanting that sort of respectability.
John did go to college – an art college – but like all the best people (*takes a bow) he was kicked out. It was a time when every student was posing as an Angry Young Man. His…[Read more]

You’re not the first person who’s been trolled in that way here.
That type of trolling is past forgiveness, beneath contempt.

sceptical guy replied to the topic Frog Poem (not really about frogs tbh( in the forum Art, poetry, music and film 8 years, 7 months ago
This is my favourite of the poems posted here today.
It keeps true to a single image, and develops it. It’s humorous, and clever. It maintains a nice sense of rhythm all the way through, and the rhythm reflects the subject of the small man who has puffed himself up, and is being reminded that he’s only puffed himself up.
Well done on this one!

That’s good, Sarah, but I don’t like the theme.
That’s just me. It’s a theme whihc sits so badly with my life, the people I’ve known and loved, the hopes I’ve had.
Tolstoy begins Anna Karenina with a statement (more or less) that all families are happy in the same way, but that an unhappy family is unhappy in its own way. He sees the unhappy…[Read more]

it would be better if it had more of a sense of rhythm, mister q. Read the first line out loud, and you should see what I mean. Rhyme is no the most important thing in a poem.

That’s the second best poem – to me – you’ve posted here.
A book has always been prefereable to life for m, and your poem expresses that.. It keeps a unity of theme as well; you don’t wander off or bring in imagery whihc has nothing to do with the theme.
Until the last line, whihc sort of hangs loose?
I don’t believe we write out own endings,…[Read more]

I understand that., Sarah, am feeling that way more and more myself.
Partly the ageism is getting to me; and partly the gap between me and others seems to be too great.
But there are some people who are interesting here, and some good people too.
So I hope you stay, and understand if you don’t x

It’s a good poem, means something different to whoever is reading it.
To me, it’s talking to oneself, using the garden shed as the image for what you’ve dumped in your life, telling yourself it can be sorted later, but it just grows more fll of past memories and problems which fade with time but never go away.

You know happy is happy, but you can wish people the best and they just don’t know what to do with it! Maybe some have relationships on the site, but most are just here to be friends. We all like to tease and have fun so why all be a stick in the mud. Relax and just take it in and enjoy the laughter, no need to be rude, just be nice and treat…[Read more]

I doubt you would like True Detectives, mister q. It’s not like normal detective shows.
Linda, Rawhide was great. That song expresses the attitude of many men towards women – “Don’t try to understand ’em, just rope and tie and brand ’em. Was never too keen on 77 Sunset Strip.
My hero was Uncle Fester from The Addams Family. I used to wander…[Read more]

I must admit to falling in love wit one of the nurses – the brunette – in Emergency Ward 10.
I also thought Richard Chamberlain was a very responsible as well as handsome doctor in Dr Kildare. I would have felt safe if I had to have a serious operation if Dr Kildare was in charge of me, oh yes.
I also felt safe in the care of PC Dixon in Dixon…[Read more]
