Thank you, linda.
I really am not sure that we’ll bump into each other; your itinerary steers well clear of me, though i don’t live too far from mizzy (don’t tell her or she’ll freak!).
But Barnes and Noble sell Criterion blurays at 50% off and if you can get it past customs, I’ll pay ya. I’ll let you know a title nearer the date. Criterion’s…[Read more]

I used to like Cheyenne and Wagon Train, with Flint McCullough the Scout, and grumpy old Major Adams.
Also Laramie, whihc was quite grown up because there was a lot of shootin’ on it.
Also Rawhide, with Rowdy Yates as the gallant youngster (he’s still around) and some old cook who used to make me laugh a lot with his complaining.
My favourite…[Read more]

it sounds a really full tour.
Holy Island would fit in with the Yorkshire Dales, but I doubt very much whether you’ll have enough time.
Enjoy, anyway.

That was a very touching post about your parents, Linda.
Britain is a small country, but one with great variety. Many places to see.
One of my favourite places is Holy Island, well to the north of Newcastle. You can get there by a causeway, but you need to choose the right times as the causeway is only open for part of the day. Tides cover…[Read more]

The conference season has been very interesting this year.
Labour has been making sweet noises to my ears on social services and health and privatisation, but I’m also very concerned about the attitude to reality of a party which suddenly finds itself positioned for possible power at a time of great uncertainty. Their evasion on the EU will…[Read more]

Linda,
I like a lot of your posts (I also like Ruby and Ms K, btw)
People here cast a lot of scorn on Trump (and on Boris Johnson).
Not everyone. Several here – drac, alfie – have defended him against the rest of us.
But don’t you think a lot of Americans say far worse things about Trump than anyone here??
So are they being unpatriotic.
That…[Read more]

Mister q, don’t worry about it.
Cosy doesn’t need me or anyone else to have a go at people.
But I do have a friendly word of advice.
When you came here you were telling everyone to be positive, to have nothing but nice things to say to anyone, to ignore those who are rude and nasty to you.
I thought that was excellent advice. The boards had…[Read more]

absolutely agree about normality and creativity, Ms Mizz.
The problem with drink is that while it frees the creative juices and allows a good flow of words (Dylan Thomas comes to mind), it also shortens the life and therefore closes the dams of creativity as well (Dylan Thomas comes to mind).
Poets and other creative people can often get…[Read more]

I doubt she needs help, linda. I don’t think the rock concert was where she was headed.
If she is involved, we’ll know soon enough. The BBC reports that sort of thing pdq.
But thanks for offering your help.

I like editing too but balancing is also important.
Morality is often not straightforward, and while empathy needs to be limited, you can edit empathy a bit too strictly, and an unbalanced approach results.
lack of balance can sometimes be good for poetry (nods to Rimbaud and Baudelaire) but not always good for morality.
mind you, I love the…[Read more]

Thanks for the info, Mooosey. I know that Victoria’s Secret was spoken of with the same daring in both male and females in the US that Anne Summers parties is spoken of here.
But I’m sure you must know. I thought that Anne Summers was also a lingerie outfit, and held underwear parties for women only. I knew a couple of women who used to boast…[Read more]

Sorry, Alfie, I can’t speak for Ge but I’ve never been in an Anne Summers party, though I can’t see me turning it down if I were invited.
I did once find myself as a no-pretence man in the middle of a woman-only party in Bristol at the height of the mad rad fem (radical feminist) days, and that was very interesting. But there lies a tale.
