Thanks, Jane.
That’s certainly the danger.

GD, that’s a real burden for you.
I don’t think anyone could blame you if you just concentrated on teh quiz.
Could I ask a question? Why do you have to patrol f2 or anywhere else for that matter, if the Forum Hosts are there. Don’t they do the necessary patrolling?

You’ve both lost the plot.
I mean, totally lost the plot.
First, the reason the whole thread was begun and related to the case had nothing to do with me trying to titillate, and thereby harming the cause of the transgendered, as Gerry argued.
The case made headlines and was seized on by feminists because the government last week completed the…[Read more]

What a pair of pedants Gerryandthemooose are.
A discussion of whether transgendered people are women or not becomes a discussion of the legal definition of rape, complete with clauses of an unnamed law informing us that sections 75 and 76 apply to an offence under this section.
JC pedantry gone barmy.
A legal definition of rape is for a court…[Read more]

I think that’s a bit of a harsh comment on Gerry and the Mooose, and I would defend them against it.
But Gerry seems to have the idea that I am aiding transphobia by referring to the rape of women in prison by a transgendered woman, and I really don’t want to do that.
So I’m asking clarification.
The story was widely circulated some weeks ago…[Read more]

Really?
So I misunderstood.
my bad.
So, go ahead. Sophie wrote an interesting post about the Catholic Establishment and the Vatican, and their role. After a confusing piece about the Establishment in general, you and Gerry sorted out that what you were really discussing was the role of the Catholic Church in reinforcing stereotypes.
Couldn’t…[Read more]

Really?
Oh dear.
The last I heard, rape could be committed by anybody, man or woman.
But in this specific case, what evidence do you have that it was a man posing as a transgender woman???
Not what I read. I must have read wrongly, so I’m looking forward to your explanation.

So – leaving aside the petty insults – the argument is that transphobia and homophobia are caused by the propaganda of the Roman Catholic Church, or maybe by the whole of the Establishment.
Strikes me as a piss-poor argument, and no wonder the insults flow when the argument is challenged.

Phew, I thought I’d missed something.
So I was right – you were asking Gerry a question, and Gerry was demanding that I ansdwer it.
duh.
right.
The second part of your question, directed to all, was of no interest to me, so I didn’t answer it, and I’m not answering it.
To anyone interested –
Since when has the Catholic Church been a part…[Read more]

If so, apologies and I’ll answer…later this evening.

The Church – Establishment and non-Establishment – have been saying this from the start, when they were being persecuted by the Romans.
Still – easier to duck a genuine discussion by personal abuse than it is to take a critical discussion about your own approach..after all, you may be forced to defend your approach more carefully, or even…[Read more]

That toleration included transvestism.
One Chancellor of the Exchequer used to give financial statements to the House while wearing a dress and makeup.
I’m not sure Philip Hammond will be doing this on Monday, though it would be good if he did.
It would give a whole new meaning to the nickname he has of Spreadsheet Phil

i just don’t think you’re right at all, Gerry.
I think it’s part of your conspiracy theory of the effete Establishment controlling the hard-working manual workers.
That’s not something peculiar to you. I think it’s deep-seated among a lot of people, especially on the Jacobin Left (to which I think?? you belong???) and to the Far Right. I’m on…[Read more]

The first girl I ever went out with picked me up at a party when I was 19.
The party was a very middle-class affair, with a Czech flag flying in the room – Czechoslovakia had been invade recently, and everyone who wanted to protest while remaining respectable wanted to show that they too believed in ‘socialism with a human face’.
As a young and…[Read more]

Thanks for your comment, ruthless. That’s how most people react to things they don’t understand. Reminds me of the guy in the pub a while ago now who said. “Did ya see that? two guys kissing! Gawd, I nearly threw up in me beer”.
This is the second best of two brilliant songs about trans – a more intelligent, bemused reaction than ruthless. Ray…[Read more]

That used to be the case, but I’d read that things had changed. Not that I’m an expert, even less than I’m on expert on trans issues.
It isn’t relevant, drac.
I was referring to another thread from mizzy about IP numbers, and mixing it in with a couple of other things to be light-hearted about having me crown jewels snipped off.

It was teasing.
I’m not after your job. You’re not going to be demoted. I’m sure you are exceptionally competent at your job.
But if you’re determined to read it that way, then there is nothing I can say.
If I were going to launch a personal attack, you would know about it.
