Turn the date upside down, it reads the same.

    the next is probably 6009.

Titania, is that on win 9x/2000?

On XP, go to run, type msconfig, hit ok, then click the start up tab, then uncheck the box next to msnmsgs.

Geoff_40 replied to the topic what if you use the wrong ram in the board Technical Q&A 20 years ago

Or for the techies out there, the faster RAM will only go at the speed of the bus on the mb.

Geoff_40 replied to the topic what if you use the wrong ram in the board Technical Q&A 20 years ago

    Go ahead.

It’s only RAM. Nothing will be damaged.

Geoff_40 replied to the topic what if you use the wrong ram in the board Technical Q&A 20 years ago

No, along as it’s the same type!

If you asking ‘can you put faster RAM on a ‘slower’ motherboard?’, then the answer is yes.

All that will happen is that the RAM will run at the speed of the motherboard it’s placed on.

If it makes you feel safer, don’t go ahead until others confirm it.

If I understand the question correctly, then yes, you can.

It will just run at the lower speed, that’s all.

    Hi soulie,

    Where’s your sig gone??

    No, there’s no conflict.

The reason for the two partitions (in my case), is that one is for online gaming, and the other for the normal stuff.

I also back up on the other partition, in case the other fails (as in this case?).

some people create 4/5 partitions, one for programs, the others for pictures, music…[Read more]

    Kentlass,

Next to where it says QSI DVDR SW-041 , there is probably a small box with a tick in it.
Double click on the tick, and hopefully you will see now see your cd listed as well.

Now, double click on QSI DVDR SW-041 and your cd seperately, and what does it say in the main box?

don’t worry about having a poke around in here, as long as you…[Read more]

    Right click on ‘my computer’
    >properties > hardware> device manager.

Then find your cd/dvd drives in the list. Then double click on them, and what does it say?

It should tell you whether there is a problem or not, if there is, (or not, as the case may be), we can all take it from there.

    This should be striaghtforward.

Are they listed in the device manager? and if so, what is their ‘status’?

Geoff_40 replied to the topic Cd drive not recognised in the board Technical Q&A 20 years, 1 month ago

    Funny old things, computers!

I’ve just put the cd first in the boot order, and it’s allowing me to re install.

Strangley, if I boot it from the hd, it still doesn’t recognise it.

This has to be because I installed using a different pc.

    Thanks anyway everyone.

    CRACKED IT!!!!!!!

Big thanks go to Pete, Ellen, Temptress and Blonde/Blue for helping me on this.

I know it’s not the best sig, but now I know, i’ll have fun toying around.

Temptress, I may come to you for one for my online gaming if i can’t work out how to do what i want, I hope that’s ok.

Big thanks everyone again, hopfully, I can help you…[Read more]

Right then, an educated guess tells me this has everything to do with html.

I shall have a little play (leave it!), and see what i can do.

    Geoff.

The bottom of this page tells me i’m on the right track

    Thanks for the help.

What a friendly bunch you are!!

I went to Pete’s site to get a general feel (oohh I say), and got one.

I’ve tried to cut & paste in the signature box on my profile, but paste doesn’t highlight.

I’m obviously doing that part wrong! Please tell me.

Thanks again for your help, I do appreciate it.

    Many thanks, Owen. nice one.

I’ve now got a problem initialising MCI.
It could be a problem of length? (ooeerr missus!).

Soulie, if you were to download an album, not that I do please understand,
it would probably be treated as one continous track, as opposed to 11 or 12 (or whatever).

The splitter will hopefully split the continous track into…[Read more]

The best way to back up files, including all your piccies and music etc. is to buy an external hard drive.

A 120gb is only about £50, and the box another £20.

Just plug into a usb port, and start copying. (ok, a bit more to it, but the wizzard takes you through)

You don’t need to put windows on it.

No big piles of cd’s to be seen, just a n…[Read more]
