Hi Nem, no need for an apology but thank you anyway, I was probably being a little snitty and defensive as I can’t abide people who show off and name drop believing anyone who hasn’t read books on every philosopher are dimwits and have to be spoken to like children ( not you by the way lol ). Some of us do ‘real work’. Anyway I digress, as I have mentioned many times now, I have no problem with anyone having a faith in God, any God, but me, in my life, with my experiences, do not believe.
Now this ‘character’ is going to go and work harder at disguising my ignorance…..
oh that bit has been replaced has it and some has been sent over to Judaism… ohhhh that’s ok then … sigh my post was directed at nemesis ( the god / no god one) and the last post to you was about Hawking and now he is a genius is he ? But for a different reason I see……
who’s making things up about Jesus ? Where ? It was all written down in the bible wasn’t it? then great scholarly men like yourself, who think that everyone else’s opinions are not worthy, decide which bits should be interpreted differently and which bits should be slung out and which should be sent off to a different branch, as that wouldn’t go down to well and is all a bit absurd.
Sceppers, The Chief Exec of The British Science Association would disagree with you….. but what does she know eh ?
”“He was a true genius who had a great admiration of and connection to the public. Most people, when he published A Brief History of Time, would have thought a book about physics would not sell. But Stephen knew people would want to read it and it turned out they did,” said Katherine Mathieson, Chief Executive of the British Science Association.”
Bearing in mind you don’t believe in God…. Christ was a man, the son of God, He took on all of our sins, each and every one, so we can stand in front of God, forgiven. The point is, we all sin, can any one of us truly stand up and say we are perfect? Hell, even us Christians get it wrong, that’s the whole point…. You meet someone who claims they’re “good” or at least “not bad”… by whose definition? I am proud to say I believe in Christ… The most important commandments… love thy God (rather than oneself?) and love thy neighbour (be charitable, loving and kind) Tell me they’re not good things…. Not all of us that believe in God, and Christ, are deluded. Either way you look at it, life is a miracle to be thankful for.
Sorry I’m back,
”Christ was a man, the son of God, He took on all of our sins, each and every one, so we can stand in front of God, forgiven.”
Says who ?
The point is, we all sin, can any one of us truly stand up and say we are perfect? Hell, even us Christians get it wrong, that’s the whole point….”
What is the whole point ? Its Ok to get it wrong as long as you believe ? And btw, I never claimed to be perfect or even a good person, I said I try….
” The most important commandments… love thy God (rather than oneself?) and love thy neighbour (be charitable, loving and kind) Tell me they’re not good things…. ”
Well I thought we were all meant to learn to love ourselves before we can understand how to love others,, and I’m pretty sure I mentioned being charitable and kind means you are a decent person not just a Christian ?
So those are the most important commandments….. Lets have a look at them shall we and their punishments.
Capital punishment in some cases (For killing Cain, yes, for killing Abel, no: Genesis 4:15).
8.Thou shalt not steal.
Guarded
Excessive fines or slavery: (Exodus 22:1-3). Only in rare cases such as stealing slaves, capital punishment (Exodus 21:16). Thieves caught in the night are to be executed (Exodus 22:1-3)
9.Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
Now I’m sure you don’t seriously agree with all these, and people will talk about evolvement etc etc. but these were Gods 10 commandments were they not ?
” hell even us Christians get it wrong ” Apart from sounding a tad patronising I’d agree yes they do a lot ! !
I have love and respect for many people who are believers, I have no issue with their faith, however, I’ve also known / know many Christians who are far from pleasant…. judgemental, gossiping, cruel, vain, and arrogant people, but hey that’s ok because they ‘love’ god more than they love themselves !!! Also not true at all, they just have to say they do !! SO What is the whole point again ? Exactly ?
agree Drac ,they were Sceps theories not mine . My beliefs are work, get rewards, help people if you can and don’t be too judgemental because you may think you know a persons life, but mainly you don’t. Anyway I’m retiring from this debate, as it has become more about book related ‘knowledge’ than common sense and decency. I don’t believe in God and I seriously doubt anyone could convince me, however, if I’m wrong, come the judgement day , surely this benevolent God would know I’m not a bad person ( in general terms ) and have tried to be a good person, because I don’t believe am I then condemned to the fires of hell for not believing in him ? So if he does exist does it matter if we believe or not , isn’t being a decent human more important ? or should we just worry that anyone who doesn’t believe is condemned anyway? Is that even a Christian attitude ? lol
Well I’ve debated this issue with Sceps before , half of the commandments would be null and void today, the modern Christians don’t believe in the resurrection etc etc , nor after life nor fluffy clouds and meeting back up with auntie fanny who died 20 years ago, my question is when do you stop believing in Christ, isn’t that where the name comes from ?, excuse my ignorance on the subject, but when does it stop being Christianity and just become ‘being a decent person ‘ ? Treating others as you would like to be treated isn’t religious , its just decent isn’t ?
I’d like Sceppers to explain what his faith means to him, exactly what he does believe in ….

In MY opinion it wasn’t a cheesy film nor was it a cheesy book, but then that’s my opinion which doesn’t in anyway compare with YOUR opinion. It was well acted and I found it interesting and received far more accolades than just an Oscar or didn’t you read it all. I enjoyed it, that must make me a reallll thicko, sorry about that Sir.

Hate to say it Sceppers mate, but its starting to look a little like resentment that someone SO admired by so many, for whatever reasons, ie: if he brought understanding to so many young students it really doesn’t matter if they thought of him as some sort of super human, and of course he’d lap it up, he was making what many people don’t even try to understand more understandable, because his views on God differ so greatly with yours, that you are trying discredit him slightly, I bit like ” Meh…. he wasn’t all that …. ” when of course we all know He Was All That. I know you will disagree, I’m just saying it’s the feeling I’m getting here…
Sorry.
