Hmmm, some ppl have a strange idea of what constitutes unhygenic.
I’ve never knowingly caught anything off any of my pets who have slept on the bed.
Human’s however, carry germs and viruses that they pass onto other people. Some air con units and water filters are breeding grounds for germs.
Travelling on a bus or a train? Put your hand on a handrail on the escalator? Handling money? Dirty and full of germs.
How many times have you bought food from a cafe, or a deli or a salad bar? Remember, the next time you do, humans shed hair and skin as well and they don’t always wash their hands.
Who knows, they might have scratched their bum or picked their nose or a spot before serving you.
Test carried out on a bowl of peanuts, put on the bar for customer consumption, found they had traces of urine on them from hand dipping…
Oh I beg your pardon, I thought the question was should dogs and cats sleep on your bed, not are cats and dogs more or less hygienic than humans.
Germs are all around us – fact.
Many humans have very low standards of personal hygiene – fact.
Lots of things can kill you – fact.Does that mean that cats and dogs are therefore hygienic? No.
Does that mean it’s perfectly safe to allow your cats and dogs to sleep in your bed? No.However with all things that carry a risk, it’s up to us to decide which risks we are prepared to take and what is acceptable to us personally. To question someone’s view of hygiene or to accuse someone of scaremongering because they highlight an article detailing the risks is tantamount to saying my view is right, your view is wrong. Not so, just different.
You need to chill. I have my opinion, you and pepsi have yours.
I didn’t realise you were both the thread police – are you going to be turning up on my doorstep with a flashing blue light on your head and arrest me?

Oh dear ! you are upset aren’t you !
The article was posted as I thought having read it some time ago it would be an interesting addition to the thread …as it gives the positive aspects of owning a pet as well as any possible health risks! It also poses some questions on aspects of hygiene with regards to pets.
Yes the title of the thread is slightly alarming and that’s why I remembered it ! However I do feel that it was worth posting it !
I still say no to the question that was asked on this thread and let’s just stick to that question shall we !
Upset?
Not at all. Just putting your scare mongering into perspective.

Maybe you should read this article …
Letting Sleeping Dogs Lie in Your Bed Can Kill You
AOL news

Crossing the road could kill you. Eating food contaminated with ecoli could kill you.
In fact, lots of things could kill you.
Did you know a child is more likely to be harmed or killed by their own parents or a family member than by a stranger or animal?
Of if you’re American, as this article is, you’re probably more likely to be killed by your own school pals.

29 February, 2012 at 7:13 pm #489949I have 5 cats and they sleep on my bed or on the sofa. Anywhere they want in fact except the kitchen.
My cats are probably more hygienic than me after a day of travelling on public transport.

Sometimes political correctness is very bizarre. Religious differences often appear to be behind a lot of these problems but if people choose to live in a different country should they not respect the historical views of the country they move to rather than trying to impose the views from where they originated – just a thought
It would appear that things in this story have been blown out of proportion but like most stories there are three views, one side, the other side and the truth
I see your point – “when in Rome do as the Romans” etc and some Arab states certainly do not tolerate western ways in their countries so why should we?
Probably because the Christian religion is far more liberal than some religions.
However, in England, we have no laws banning the wearing of veils etc like they do in France and I see no reason to introduce them – it will more likely do more harm than good.
I’m not religious in the slightest, each to their own but when it comes to religion and religious practices in this country, I think there perhaps should be a more consistent approach:
