How very noble of you, thanks so much……  and yes my comments were allusive, deliberately so as I have already stated…….

    #1093709

    Noble???

well, given your other comments, maybe….

    #1093714

please quote other comments you found offensive , on this thread, thanks.

There are 28 pages so far on this thread,  I made comments on pages 4 and 5 ,  7 , 16 to Mr Q ,( till you mentioned me ) no names mentioned…. and I stand by my comments. Predominately, it is the same 2-3 people arguing for 28 pages,  so I really don’t understand ( or care ….  just curious ) why you feel the need to include me , when you have 28 pages to go at ?   IMHO… once again a ‘pissing contest’, by the same people… and I stand by my opinion, sorry if you don’t like it…. shame ….

I don’t care whether you think I’m engaged in a pissing contest. To me, it just demonstrates how prejudiced you are.

I’m assuming this one was addressed to me?

    or maybe I’m wrong?

As an afterthought…. there must be more ‘ high brow, academic’ forums out there, why not join one of them instead of mixing with the ” cocksucking deadwoods” on this one ? Or is it a case of Big Fish Little Pond syndrome…..

The UK has arse licked the USA for years and years !! Long before Brexit !!! Brexit has absolutely nothing to do with it !! despite how to try and worm it in there…… :negative:

Now this is one good point you make.

I was arguing that Britain’s total subservience to the US will be increased when the UK leaves the EU because of economic weakness. Britain is desperate for a trade pact with the US.

I think my point was a reasonable and relevant one, but it is speculative.

Your point is factual. The last time we struck out independently of the US was the bombing and invasion of the Suez Canal zone in 1956 – to the horror of the US. We had to stop a day after the US expressed their displeasure. Kennedy insisted that we join the Common market, the EU as it then was, as a counterpart to an anti-American France (among other reasons).

My hope was that EU membership would allow us to develop a foreign policy less subservient to the US. Again this is speculative.

A totally independent foreign policy is out of the question – Britain is no longer the Great Power of pre-1940 days..  Not everyone would agree with me on this – Labour Left and Tory Right would disagree.

But it is absolutely relevant to this topic.

Britain’s total subservience to the US

I would say these are very strong terms. I understand the points. Personally, I would tone it down a bit and say the UK and USA have a long, loving, complex, very close family cultural bonding, and a very powerful alliance. From day one of USA’s inception Britain has been there influencing it, and vice versa. I don’t think Britain arse licks or shows total subservience to USA or to anybody, except perhaps the EU. That’s why we’re leaving.

I think there’s a good argument we are more subservient to the EU than we are to the USA. One could argue we have a stronger culturally better bonding to USA than mainland Europe in many respects.

My hope was that EU membership would allow us to develop a foreign policy less subservient to the US

As I understand your comments, it’s negative to be totally subservient to the USA, but positive to be totally subservient to the EU?

The last time we struck out independently of the US was the bombing and invasion of the Suez Canal zone in 1956

    The Falklands 1982?

It’s interesting that you take mooosey’s quotation that the USA has licked the arse of the US for years and years and attributed it to me.

I’m particularly interested in Mooosey’s response to my posts – both to the post on the US which I agreed with, and what I thought was a nasty personal attack on me – so if you don’t mind I’ll take a raincheck on answering you.

Well yes. Cocksucking deadwood ring any bells ? Think hard now ? Surely that expression didn’t just go over your head ? You used it to me ! The rest of all that vitriol just bored me I’m afraid and I’ve better things to do, though “ predjudiced” is very odd I must say . I’m flummoxed by that one

However I’m not curious enough to carry on with this as I’m thoroughly bored by it all, and CBA explaining a post I made pages and pages ago , so please leave me out of it and you lot crack on  :bye:

I knew that would appeal to your petty nature rather than tackling any points made.

I do apologise to you and mooosey for the misquote. I was being lazy and couldn’t be bothered to scroll back to moosey’s original post, so I took it from your quote of it instead on this page.
