and for those with no feel for poetry at all..

    not that I’m accusing anybody…

it isn’t meant to be taken literally.

    Its truths are not literal.

    Happy Easter…

For anyone with a real feel for poetry.

Patti Smith wrote a song about the French poet, Baudelaire, who as a child in 1863 was taking part in the Easter procession to Mass. Suddenly he and his sister Isabella broke from the procession and ran to meet the Resurrection.

I’ll debate any time in a reasoned manner.

Much of the stuff (maybe not all) posted here since I was last here doesn’t strike me as at all reasoned.

I’ll take it up after Easter.

Sure, that’s your belief about the cosmos.

Many – many – have held that. It’s been a crucial belief of people like Woody Allen, and it was elaborated by Western European philosophers about a hundred years ago. I could drop names but that would infuriate Ms M, who;s convinced I’m an intellectual show-off.

rudeboy, you should check things carefully before posting.

I said that I believe that Love created the cosmos, and that without it we couldn’t continue.

First, that is what I believe. It could well be wrong. I don’t approach these things with the same certainty you do. Scientists don’t approach things with your level of certainty.

    Secondly,…[Read more]

    Gerry,

in a post now deleted you said that you knew you were being a tw*t, but that I diodn’t know I was being one.

I’ve been thinking about that a lot

and  neither you nor any other here are a judge of me

    but you’re right.

I’ve been thinking of people like you and rudeboy and ‘Morgan’ as among those who spat in the face of Jesus and taunted…[Read more]

    No, mooosey, you’re right,

Love is definitely NOT just for believers.

Without it, none of us could keep going.

Without a great deal of it, you’d have collapsed yeas ago.

But believers look to Love as having created the cosmos

And when Stephen Hawking argued that if he could demonstrate that the laws of the universe were fixed, then there…[Read more]

This tv programme of Liberace’s Easter Show is now seen as unsuitable for small children.

If they had had the telly in Palestine about 30AD, the final torment for Jesus as he hung on the cross, after spitting in his face and taunting him, would have been to play the scene with Liberace reading a religious poem in birthday card rhyme, and…[Read more]

I’ve not finished with this thread, and today seems appropriate to answer the question of whether faith is blind.

I said that faith couldn’t be put in words, but sometimes you can get close.

Joni Mitchell does it (I known there’s a Joni thread, but it belongs here) with a song whose words are among the most beautiful written about faith. She…[Read more]
