Well, erm,
two different types of riot.
In Belgium, there were 5000 rioters mobilised by the Far Right against the UN decision on migration.
In France, the riots are much more widespread, signs of a genuine popular revulsion at Macron’s economic policies, which are rightly seen as favouring the rich. They aren’t political – Right or Left.…[Read more]

I was wondering why we hadn’t heard from you.
You are capable of presenting a serious argument, and I’ll definitely take issue with that – when it occurs.
I think if you read paige carefully, you’ll see she’s being ironic.
Or am I wrong/ If Paige corrects me on that, I’ll admit to having misread her.
Otherwise –

Paige,
I wouldn’t get upset by their dismissive attitude to you. I’m sure you’re not. When these characters start to talk of depravity and evil about the arguments of their opponents, you know that they haven’t any substantive argument. They talk like that because they are fanatics.
They’re not going to listen to any of your arguments. They redu…[Read more]

This is disgusting!!
The Rothschilds aren’t German. They were German when they were established in banking (in Frankfurt), but they became particularly noted in French banking in the 19th century. They are now divided into several families according to nation – Austria, France, Britain and Italy. There was no German branch at all bet…[Read more]

Jamie,
I don;’t know of any particle of brexit propaganda during the referendum which talked about people getting poorer. Nobody I knew or heard thought that they were going to get anything bur richer as a result of the Brexit dividend. Anyone who warned otherwise, on JC or in the country, was denounced as a propagator of Project Fear.
If y…[Read more]

That’s no answer, drac!!
You may well have a duty to explain who we can avoid the suffering imposed by No-Deal if there is a referendum in which it figures.
As the Brexit bus said,

Well, like you, I’m not born with the information in my head.
I have to read to get my information, in my case the financial press.
The ‘stories’ I was talking about were reports of supermarket managers saying that if there was no deal then the food shelves would empty quite rapidly.
They were that the hospitals were warning that meds are…[Read more]

sceptical guy replied to the topic "People's Vote" in the forum Getting serious 6 years, 7 months ago
That’s not actually correct.
Nobody said it was the government who was promising £350 million to the NHS. It wasn’t jsut a group of leavers, though it may not have been your section of the leave campaign. Ity was the group of Leavers which had the backing of the big names – Boris J, Gove etc etc
Nope. It didn’t exactly say let’s give…[Read more]

Perhaps someone could explain how the Leave élite think we can avoid the suffering of a no-deal Brexit, because the ‘stories’ I’ve heard from everyone else, Leaver and Remainer, seem pretty convincing!

I hate Christmas schmaltz, Christian or non-Christian.
It’s gooey and genuinely sickly.
But you do get the occasional story which is very moving.
I was reading earlier this month of a 7 year old boy who had written a Christmas card to his dad in Heaven.
I’m sure that there are some in JC with a mentality akin to the Death’s Head battalion of…[Read more]

Paige,
the way some of these fanatics are going, we’ll be down to two countries – or one when Wales realises how much money it’s going to lose once we leave.
But they don’t care. They’re English nationalists, and they deserve what will happen to them.
The trouble is that a lot of the rest of us will get getting it in the teeth as well.

sceptical guy replied to the topic "People's Vote" in the forum Getting serious 6 years, 7 months ago
Maybe. But maybe not!
But you’re just spelling out the consequences of no deal.
We were told during the referendum that we’re all in th money once we leave. The Brexiteers drove a big red bus around the country with the sign of how much money the NHS was going to get, and people naturally thought why should we pay into the EU when it could go…[Read more]

I want us to remain in the EU. Why is that in doubt?
I don’t want a referendum – at this moment. We should rejoin at the appropriate moment – when people realise that life outside the EU is worse than life inside the EU. That could happen quite quickly.
But if the referendum comes now, so be it.
I have no idea what you are talking about…[Read more]

There are several proposals on how to deal with the vote.
There is the STV, but also a proposal by Vernon Bogdanor, the Constitutional Professor from Oxford et al, for a two-stage referendum.
I think it’s foolish to speculate until we know what the alternatives are, and a waste of time to go into detail until we’re sure there is a…[Read more]

Well, apart from really odd comments about the Remain ruling class (*genuinely flummoxed here) and ‘Frexit'(well, we could certainly discuss that but it’s not relevant to this issue at the moment), these selected statistics refer to the 2016 referendum.
That referendum instructed Parliament to leave the EU.
The government has arranged a deal in…[Read more]

Actually, that ship may not have sailed yet
If a referendum is held, I’d be surprised if remain isn’t on the paper. There would be outrage among the bulk of Labour, the Greens, the SNP, the Lib Dems, and a section of the Tories if it were otherwise.
But who knows? It’s the Commons which would decide the questions, not me or JC.
Sorry…[Read more]
